Former UNESCO Director-General Madam Irina Bokova Visits NAEA and Participates AGEL Dialogue
On May 26, 2026, Madam Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO, visited National Academy of Education
Administration (NAEA). Executive Vice President Mr. Shi Peng received Madam Bokova and her delegation. The two sides engaged
in in-depth discussions on advancing people-to-peoplepeople-to-people exchange and the development of the Academy of
Global Education Leadership (AGEL).

During the visit, Madam Bokova attended the very first high-level dialogue of AGEL. Delivering a keynote speech
themed Transformations in Global Educational Governance and Global Competence Development, Ms. Bokova drew on
her extensive experience working with international organizations and practicing global educational governance to share
her insights on education for sustainable development, lifelong learning in the AI era, as well as global competence and
the mission of higher education. In the interactive session, Madam Bokova had an interview with Mr. Rui Yang, former
anchor of CCTV English Channel. She also joined a roundtable discussion with four representatives from the 75th University
Young Leaders Program. The event drew an audience of approximately 120.

Madam Bokova, renowned as UNESCO’s first female and first Eastern European Director-General (2009–2017), was awarded
the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2025.
